"I don't know why they switched the cover--the old, sparse, dagger on black background was great--but this is a nearly perfect album of rock. It's punk, it's a bit gothic, it's got hooks, it's got a lot of attitude, and it sounds great over 20 years later. It absolutely holds up today.
The Lords have resurfaced of late, minus the late Stiv, of course, but they've remastered and re-released their albums and even put out some double disc goodies of live material and other gems.
Not a bad song on here, though I'd say the bookend tracks of Lords of the New Church and Holy War (how appropriate these days) really frame it well. Eat Your Heart Out has the right snarling, biting feel to it, especially that chorus. Open Your Eyes is about as relevant as ever, and there are slower but no less great tunes in Russian Roulette and Livin' on Livin'.
The production is good--this was basically a punk supergroup, but they are way more than 'punk'. There's a darker feel, and a more cerebral tone than a lot of other loud, snotty punk bands (like previous incarnations of some of the members).
This new version also has a nice bonus track, Young Don't Cry.
Highly recommended album for rock fans, for anyone who wants a bit more than what is called punk (or goth) these days. Excellent group."

"If anyone reading this is a fan of the Dead Boys, the Damned, or even Sham 69 do yourself a favor and pick this one up. The drums sound fantastic, Bators voice still spits a lot of venom, it has goth textures but its not goth, and the album does what a lot of other side projects forget to do: it rocks. Almost every track works the two standouts being the openers "New Church" and "Russian Roulette". The bonus tracks offer a nice contrast and you can see why they were left off, still good songs though. Pick it up."

"This cd is incredible, short but incredible. I was inspired in high school to do a slide show for Apocalypso and Holy War. Great imagery. I like the original cover, the dagger on a black background. I don't care for the new cover. Hey, is this remastered or what? I already own the IRS version. I'll pay $15 if the reissue is remastered. It would help if the packaging stated "Digitally Remastered". If you don't own the Lords (Stiv era) start here. Not a bad song on it. Excellent cover of Russian Roulette. Livin' On Livin', Open Your Eyes (the single), Eat Your Heart Out, I could go on, ahh what the heck, Question of Temperature (Cover), Li'l Boys Play With Dolls (A tribute to the New York Dolls), Portobello, and New Church all rock."
