"This CD is one of the very few country albums from the 1960's to be released on CD in it's original form and it should be, this is one of Loretta Lynn's very best albums even if it weren't for the fact that the title song YOU AIN'T WOMAN ENOUGH was one of the true monster songs of Loretta's career. All of the songs are great here and 32-year-old Loretta was just beginning her career as country music's greatest female star, pulling out ahead of such great competition as Connie Smith, Skeeter Davis, and the incredibly durable Kitty Wells. These 12 gems are superb, I especially like Loretta's covers of the Wilburn Brothers hits SOMEONE BEFORE ME and IT'S ANOTHER WORLD. Most delicious is Loretta's cover of Nancy Sinatra's pop hit THESE BOOTS ARE MADE FOR WALKIN', which almost sounds written for Loretta it so fits into her "fightin' female" mold. Two country hit covers here of this period, the mid 1960's were the seeds for 1970's hits: TALKIN' TO THE WALL, a hit for Warner Mack at the time is perhaps best known now by it's 1974 top ten remake by Loretta rival Lynn Anderson, while the new baby novelty TIPPY TOEING, a Harden Trio classic will certainly bring Loretta's famous 1972 hit ONE'S ON THE WAY to mind. Another 1970's rival of Loretta's, Dolly Parton, comes into the picture with Loretta's excellent version of the Parton-penned (her first hit) PUT IT OFF UNTIL TOMORROW, a big hit at the time for Bill Phillips (Loretta and Dolly would record the song together, along with Tammy Wynette on the 1993 album HONKY TONK ANGELS). What else can you say about Loretta's classic hit YOU AIN'T WOMAN ENOUGH (certainly one of the three or four biggest hits of her career) it's so legendary yet the album's high point is a forgotten Loretta original titled A MAN I HARDLY KNOW, surely one of the finest tracks she has ever recorded. I hope some of the millions of buyers of Loretta's new runaway best-seller CD VAN LEAR ROSE will dig into her catalog and discover some truly great older stuff as well - this budget CD is the perfect place to start."
