"For her third solo release, "One Good Thing," Lou Rhodes reunites with former Lamb bandmate Andy Barlow. There's no trip-hop or drum & bass to be had, however; Lou is still in all-out folk singer mode, and Barlow's contributions are subtle sonic tweaks. The most important thing, however, is that Lou's songwriting and voice are both in top form. "There for the Taking," "Why Wait for Heaven" and the title track address her heartfelt, timely concerns for the state of the world and humanity. "Magic Day" and "Baby" are sweet, organic odes to romance, while the devastating "Melancholy Me" manages to evoke Joni Mitchell's earliest recordings without borrowing from a specific song. Immaculately performed and produced, without a single moment of filler, "One Good Thing" is yet another very good thing in Lou Rhodes' impressive catalog."
