CD Reviews

A three-artist love album
andy8047 | Nokomis,Florida | 02/01/2004
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This a collection of love songs that span two decades. These songs were released between 1967 and 1987. None of these are slow-dancers though. This album could have used SOMEBODY TO LOVE,ST. CHARLES and Marty Balin's solo hit HEARTS. Those are love songs also. Balin's personally-penned megahit MIRACLES from RED OCTOPUS is on the album. I'm talking about the full seven-minute version. CAROLINE from DRAGONFLY is 29 seconds longer, according to the timing on the album. Other RED OCTOPUS tracks are PLAY ON LOVE and Grace Slick's composition AI GARIMASU(There is Love). COUNT ON ME is from 1978's EARTH. LOVE TOO GOOD would have been ideal for this collection also. From 1976's SPITFIRE is WITH YOUR LOVE. From the Jefferson Airplane era are COME UP THE YEARS,MY BEST FRIEND,IN TIME,TODAY and HAVE YOU SEEN THE STARS TONIGHT?. From the Mickey Thomas era(he replaced Balin in '79) are SARA,SAVE YOUR LOVE and NOTHING'S GONNA STOP US NOW."
Yet another great Airplane/Starship set
Johnny Boy | Hockessin, DE | 03/15/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Unlike previous Jefferson Airplane/Jefferson Starship/Starship compilations, this set focuses strictly on their love songs. As previous reviewers have pointed out, the legendary vocalist Marty Balin sings lead on 9 out of the 17 songs featured here.

Although this set does cover most of the love songs from the period, one does have to ask where a song like 'Somebody To Love,' 'Greasy Heart' or 'Jane' is. They are all love songs.

But, needless to say, there are some very underrated gems on here. 'Have You Seen The Stars Tonight,' which features legendary Grateful Dead frontman Jerry Garcia on guitar appears on this set, which very rarely appears on a compilation.

Overall, this is highly recommended for any Jefferson Airplane/Jefferson Starship/Starship fan.

Highly recommended. ENJOY!!!"
