Long known for their incisive songwriting and tight two part vocals, their tenth disc is their first recording of "covers" -- songs by other writers -- "songs we wish we'd written." The duo mines their full spectrum of their roots with well-known songs by their influences, chestnuts from their desert island disc collections and even a couple of songs by lesser-known buddies who deserve greater exposure. Tracks include Van Morrison's "Into The Mystic", The Left Banke's classic "Walk Away Renee", Rockpile's "Teacher Teacher", a smokey take on Gordon Lightfoot's "The Way I Feel", Hal Ketchum's "Small Town Saturday Night", The Bee Gees' soulful "To Love Somebody", the Ramones' "Blitzkrieg Bop" done folk-bluegrass style, "Good Things" by duo-buds The BoDeans, the Dobie Gray perrennial "Drift Away", little-known Tom Petty gem "It'll All Work Out", Sam & Dave's stirring "When Something Is Wrong With My Baby","Playing on the Runway" by acoustic guitar ace Jack Williams and "Fall" by eastmountainsouth co-writer Joshua Meltzer. The whole album was cut in just a few days with a Dream Team of players -- the legendary Jim Keltner on drums, Hutch Hutchinson on bass (Bonnie Raitt, The Neville Brothers), Phil Parlapiano on keys (Grant Lee Buffalo, John Prine), production, engineering and keys by John Whynot (Bruce Cockburn, Kathleen Edwards), and Richard Dodd on cello (Smashing Pumpkins, Christina Aguilera) in addition to Eric Lowen and Dan Navarro in their familiar guitar-vocal roles.
