""Soir de Premiere" is Quebecois recording artist Luce Dufault's third album (her 4th just released) and became my favorite the moment I listened to it. I fell in love with Luce's strong sultry alto voice way back when she worked as a back up singer for other famous recording artists in Quebec. Even as a mere "choriste," the beauty of her voice stood out and I was thrilled when she branched out to become a solo recording artist. "Soir de Premiere" is Luce's first live album. The songs on this album are all favorites of Luce's. They are songs that she loves to sing over and over again. The selections include American favorites such as "I Keep Forgetting," "Natural Woman," "God Bless the Child" and "You've Got a Friend" (the best interpretation I've ever heard of this James Taylor classic)as well as French classics by Jacques Brel ("La chanson des vieux amants"), Luc Plamondon ("La serveuse automate") and Zachary Richard ("Coeur fidele"). My favorite on this album (if I had to choose just one)would be Luce's interpretation of Leonard Cohen's "Famous Blue Raincoat." Accompanied by an acoustic guitar, this piece brings out the full richness of Luce's beautiful alto voice. Listening to Luce live in concert is a spiritual experience. If you can't be there live, this album is the next best thing.I am glad that this album is now available on Amazon.com so listeners outside of Quebec can have access to it. If you have not heard of Luce Dufault before, this is your chance to discover one of the most beautiful voices on earth.
