Synopsis
Product Description Smart and sassy women vocalists may sound like the flavor of 2008, but Lucy Woodward has been blazing her own path since the 2003 release of her Top 40 hit Dumb Girls, which allowed her to tour internationally as well as garner her significant press exposure including a spot on `The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.' Hold the damage and call off the paparazzi, though -- Woodward knows the difference between confidence and braggadocio; unlike most of today s crop of young soul singers, there s no imminent train wreck in her future. The intervening five years have amped up the funk and hip-hop quotient of her music, and on `Lucy Woodward Is...Hot & Bothered,' she hooks up with Itaal Shur, who co-wrote the Santana Grammy-winning hit, `Smooth,' and Tim K. (of the Electronica/House duo, Home & Garden). Mixing her convincing vocals and songwriting with pop smarts yields a potent and well-rounded portrait of a young singer enviably in control. From the hip-hop-soul-styled `Use What I Got' to the small-combo blues of `Geographical Cure,' Woodward invests contemporary productions with jazzy flourishes -- imagine Amy Winehouse and Duffy with an additional decade of musical references. `Love Is Gonna Getcha' mines a trip-hop groove with John Barry orchestrations and disco-era harmonies, with Woodward's golden vocals bouncing along the top. Its companion track, `Too Much to Live For,' kicks all of the above into higher gear and adds a gospel breakdown. The London-born, Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter's versatility is unsurprising if you consider her pedigree as the daughter of a belly-dancing opera singer and a composer-conductor. On the torchy `Slow Recovery,' though, Woodward shows off her most valuable asset: a flexible, sensual voice with a seductive rasp that should be leaving listeners hot and bothered for a long time to come. Lucy's sizzling live performance includes horns, dancing and backup singers which offer the perfect send up to her lusty torch-style vocals. The Lucy Woodward experience is an endless feast for eyes and ears. Sexy, soulful and sensational, Lucy has showcased her songs to captivated standing room only audiences all across the New York and Los Angeles metropolitan areas. `Lucy Woodward Is...Hot & Bothered' includes a special CD package with pull-out color poster, all of the songs' lyrics, and 12 amazing and timeless songs for you to enjoy for years to come. CD ReviewsLucy Woodward Kim Thore | USA | 12/27/2008 (5 out of 5 stars) "The CD may be entitled "Lucy Woodward Is Hot and Bothered" but perhaps the subtitle should be "and so will you..." You've more than likely heard Lucy's vocals tugging at you in the background of films and television "movies" and so it should be as her sumptuous voice is a backdrop of tonal delicacies. As a singer/songwriter commonly known for the Top 40 hit "Dumb Girls", released in February 2003, Woodward continued to tour and contribute to various soundtracks eventually scoring a BMI Pop Award for writing the hit single "(There's Gotta Be) More to Life" featured on Stacie Orrico's self titled album. Now, with the introduction of "Lucy Woodward Is Hot and Bothered" Woodward has obviously found her niche. With a come hither voice that heralds back to the days of No Doubt when Stephani was interesting, Woodward delivers an array of songs that range from Motown-esque love to dimly lit 1940's nightclub torch tunes that make you think of the days of Sean Connery Bond movies, martini bars and unrequited lovers. In short, "Lucy Woodward Is Hot and Bothered" is a must have cd for your eclectic collection and let's just hope she keeps channeling whatever has her in a "state of sudden yet subtle arousal" and that she always has a mic nearby. -Kim Thore All Access Magazine" This CD will knock your socks off! P. J. Rose | Warwick, RI USA | 11/09/2008 (5 out of 5 stars) "Lucy Woodward is back with a second album full of soul, funk, torch, and killer pop that will have you listening non-stop. From her amazing voice to her brilliant songwriting skills, this is one artist to keep your eye on. There is not one song in the bunch that will make you press your 'skip' button. She's even better live, so keep a watch out for it. In the meantime, grab this CD - you won't be sorry."
