(4 out of 5 stars)
"... IMHO, that is. I might well have given Lester's solid but stolid performance five stars, just because I love these sonatas and wish I could play them myself. But I've been listening again and again to the more recent recording of three sonatas and two 'chamber' concertos by cellist Bruno Cocset, playing a cello specially constructed to 'handle' Boccherini's expectations -- extremely high passage work, ferociously awkward double stops, idiosyncratic bowing 'col legno' and bouncing on the strings -- and the result is so much more exciting, expressive, athletic that I doubt I'll ever play Lester's CD again. Still, Lester is a pro, and less than four stars would be unfair."
