Synopsis
Album Description 2002 album on which the sexiest fifty-something in pop sings with contemporaries such as Elton John, Paul McCartney & Sting, as well as bright young things Atomic Kitten, Westlife & Samantha Mumba. Reminding us exactly why she's still not only a dynamite entertainer but an unmatched vocal craftswoman, tracks include 'To Sir With Love', 'Teardrops' & 'Reunited', plus Lulu's landmark 1993 chart-topping collaboration with Take That, 'Relight My Fire'. CD ReviewsLulu's music is as good as it has ever been Peter Durward Harris | Leicester England | 08/24/2002 (5 out of 5 stars) "When given the right material, Lulu is one of the finest singers in the history of pop music. She has recorded some truly dreadful records, the worst being Boom bang a bang, but her best work is pure magic - just listen to Rhino's From crayons to perfume compilation, which leaves out all the rubbish, and which I bought instead of any of the British compilations. It was therefore with some doubts that I bought this collection of covers featuring duets with a varied collection of partners, some older than Lulu, but others not even born when Lulu had her last big solo hit. I needn't have worried - although I can't say I love every track, the overall impression is far better than I dared hope for. After two spins, I generally prefer the ballads, but you may prefer the uptempo rocking songs, some of which are excellent. In any case, there is plenty of variety. All the tracks are newly recorded except Relight my fire, which was recorded with Take That in the nineties and topped the British charts. It is the last track of the album. If you haven't got any of Lulu's music, this is a fine introduction for fans of the current pop scene. Fans of the sixties and seventies should start with From crayons to perfume. Either way, if you buy one, you may become sufficiently curious to buy the other.Lulu obviously hopes that this collection will sell to young and old alike. She may well succeed in that aim, and certainly deserves to." Lulu Is So Cool!!! Dennis Lee Cleven | Madison, WI | 03/31/2004 (5 out of 5 stars) "When I heard that Lulu was doing a duets album, I was hesitant that it would be a schmaltzy affair. I was relieved that she took well known song and with stars like Elton John, Sting, Ronan Keating she put new life and vibrancy into all of them. She is not stuck in a time warp of the 60s at all. She is up-to-date and knows how to belt out a song. Her voice is better than ever and it is a woman's voice. She is one of Britain's finest singers and why this album and her latest, "Back On Track", are not being marketed in the US is a pity. She has what it takes to make it in the music industry. Find out for yourself. Her duet with Elton John, "Teardrops" is amazing as is "Sail On Sailor" with Sting. There are no lame tracks on this album and it is a true gem. Find out for yourself. Lulu is cool and her singing is hot!" Great album (despite Atomic Kitten)! Anita Nadeau | Ottawa, Canada | 08/06/2002 (4 out of 5 stars) "Despite the fact that a couple of tracks would have been better left off (Atomic Kitten, Sting) this is a great, upbeat album.
Lulu has always had a strong voice and she needs the same in a singing partner to keep up with her! Put it on when you feel the urge to dance, even if you dont, you soon will!! Enjoy!!!" |
