"This is a great CD, although it only lasts about 40 minutes. It has the GREATEST HITS of the Famous MAHALEO band. It is a MUST HAVE for Malagasy fan. I know all these songs by heart, that is how popular these songs are. The song writer of Ravorondreo wants a bird to transmit a message to his girlfriend that she had broken his heart one time but he will not suffer again. He got a sigh of relief when the girl had a bad time with her new lover because now she knows what he experienced. Ianao is a love song which is sweet and says that you are the one I chose to love but if you don't want me, please do not push me out brutally. Vololona is also a love song about a girl that the writer loves but is happy sleeping on somebody else's chest. Enough about love, Adin-Tsaina is the opposite of the first 3 songs and relates to a bitter separation. The writers wonders what he is going to do with the 5 kids that the marriage produced since the woman left for another man. Veloma Ry Fahazazana is a song which talk about the difficulty of the transition from boyhood to adulthood and also from adulthood to waiting for death. Once adolescent, the youth tries everything from pleasure to forbidden tracks and tries to find out who he really is. Rainivoanjo is a Malagasy version of Robin Hood. I think I had written enough for now so it is up to you to decide but as I said earlier, this is a must have CD for Malagasy Music Fan. I will take it anywhere with me."

Any Mahaleo is good, but this one just isn't great

"On the Kaiser-Lindley "World Out of Time" CDs, Dama Mahaleo is described as the Madagascar equivalent of Bob Dylan and John Lennon combined. Mahaleo is his longtime band, and this is a 1995 CD re-release of a 1976 album. While the songs are pleasant, nothing here is in the same league as the "En Concert" album or the Dama & D'Gary "The Long Way Home" album, and the recording is of poor quality. The level of intensity and rhythmic propulsion is very low, on a par with, say, "The Best of Bread". After hearing this album and "En Concert", I've got to conclude that the Mahaleo bassist and drummer just aren't very good. If you're new to Mahaleo, go with the "En Concert" album instead--it's much more rewarding."
