(4 out of 5 stars)
"The opera itself has five (or rather: one hundred) stars, but unike the other operas in the "Great Recordings of the Century" Series, this new (single width jewel case with 2 CDs) release of Madama Butterfly does NOT come with a libretto. Since I have seven other releases of Madama Butterly, this doesn't matter to me, but if this will be your only copy of this wonderful opera, you may want to buy the previous Callas edition with the black cover, which does come with a libretto (and honestly, I can't hear much of an improvement in sound in the new remastering). I think a libretto is especially important with this opera, because the music and the words are put together so beautifully."
