CD Reviews

What do you expect from a Madonna tribute album?
Dumb Blonde Reviewing | In my bed | 01/14/2006
(3 out of 5 stars)

"I bought this dead, DEAD cheap, simply because I've always loved their version of Madonna's "Like A Prayer" (and that's my favourite Madonna song, and video), and heard their version of "La Isla Bonita" recently. Most of the songs can be quite repetitive, but it makes for good dance music, something you can dance round your house to - or in my case, dance around my computer, complete with headphones on!

Some of their versions really don't work, particularly "Like A Virgin" - it sounds extremely karaoke, as does Papa Don't Preach. All the songs however, have a fantastic beat to them, so if you're sitting at your computer (like me), you'll be nodding your head in time to the beat.

There's 3 songs on it that I don't really recognise as Madonna songs (unless they're really, really old Madonna songs), and they're "Be Yourself", "Everybody" and "Lady Of The Dawn". They are not good. There's also 2 remixes of "Frozen" and "Like A Prayer", which sound a bit strange, since technically, they've already remixed "Like A Prayer" on the first track. You also get the two videos for "Like A Prayer" and "Holiday" - I only remember "Like A Prayer" being a little bit of a hit in the UK.

The female vocalist doesn't really have the Madonna magic in her vocals, despite the fact she's doing her best to copy her voice. Of course this album will never beat the originals, but it's worthwhile picking up cheap. It's decent pop at it's best. What more could you ask for?"
Good... For What It Is.

"Mad'house was given international fame when they released their debut single "Like a Prayer" (A Madonna cover) which took the world by storm! It even made it to No. 3 on the UK charts and top 5 in many countries. 13 of the albums 14 songs are Madonna covers. The only song that isn't is an instrumental song "Space 99). Anyway the album is good for what it is. What it is however is a Madonna tribute album. Here is a review of every track:
01 Into The Groove - - The third US single is definitely one of the better songs on the album! With awesome synths and beats, this dance friendly song definitely is an awesome cover! 10/1002 Like A Prayer - - Their first single and the song that granted them fame! This song was always a Madonna classic, and is now also a Mad'House classic! The version on the album is the "Main Mix" which is kinda like an extended version. 10/1003 Holiday - - The second single is similar to Like A Prayer, but I never really enjoyed the original version and this version doesn't make it much better. I guess if you enjoyed the original version you'll probably like this version. 7/1004 La Isla Bonita - - Whoa! This song is very reminiscent of Ace Of Base... A decent song with a slightly latin/reggae vibe to it. 8/1005 Open Your Heart - - One of the better dance songs on the album. This song has a strong beat, as well as awesome synth work! Definitely one of the better songs on the album. 9/1006 Everybody - - This song kinda reminds me of Dee Dee's "Forever" although it's not as good. However, it is still a good song. 8/1007 Borderline - - Decent, this song is alright. But it doesn't really have anything special about it to make you want a second listen. 7/1008 Be Yourself - - Ick, this song really isn't all that great. No real qualities will make you want to listen to this song. Listen to it once, you'll probably never want to listen to it again. 4/1009 Like A Virgin - - The third international single, is definitely one of the better songs on the album. But then it has to be right? I mean it was a single. 9/1010 Papa Don't Preach - - The fourth international single, actually this song really [stinks]! I actually prefer the Kelly Osbourne version of this song! Not danceable at all. 4/1011 Vogue - - Whoa, the Mad'House version of Vogue really got the Drum & Bass treatment... You can't really here the vocals under the beats.. A decent song. 6/1012 Frozen - - This song isn't reallly that old! Did they really need to cover it? The answer is no. This was an awesome Madonna song. However the singer of Mad'House can't really pull it off. However, because the original song was so good I can't give it a bad score. 7/1013 Lady Of The Dawn - - I honestly never heard this song before... It's decent, the last of the Madonna covers. 7/1014 Space 99 - - The only original song on the album, happens to be instrumental, not that great for what it is... They might as well of had used another cover. 6/10As a bonus the album includes an enhanced portion which includes the videos for "Like A Prayer" and "Holiday". It also has a photo gallery and computer wallpaper!"
