CD Reviews

In The Evidence Of Its Brilliance....
Jeffery Bauman | Garden City, Michigan | 08/18/2010

"Okay, so I'm officially tardy to the party, but that's okay too. Since I have written reviews for all of Madonna's albums many years ago, I figure I should write reviews for her most recent albums as well. So, here is my review of 2005's "Confessions On A Dance Floor." As much as it pains me to say this in hindsight since I am such a huge fan of Madonna, this wasn't one of my favorite Madonna albums when it first came out. I guess I was expecting "American Life Part II" or something. I honestly loved (still love) "American Life," and I think I was in my "I can only like serious non-dance music" phase or something. What was wrong with me? Well, I've outgrown that, and this album has seriously grown on me in the past few years. But enough about me, onto the music! This is from start to finish a stellar dance record. Madonna teams with Stewart Price, and they create magic, plain and simple. I've heard this album described as "ABBA on drugs, " which I think fits. The album starts of with a bang with the classic song "Hung Up," and just keeps going. Madonna and Stuart Price's decision to sample ABBA's "Gimme Gimme Gimme (A Man After Midnight)" was a stroke of pure genius. I think they also sampled Donna Summer's "I Feel Love" in the song "Future Lovers." Throughout the album the melodies are genius, and Madonna is in top vocal form, and truly in her element. Honestly, this album has not aged a day since November 2005. In my case, it's only gotten better with time. I now rank it a very cushy sixth on my list of Madonna's albums. Now, that's pretty darn good. This is truly a must own. Buy it, and get ready to hit the dance floor!

1. Hung Up: This song is classic Madonna. Wonderful sample of the ABBA song, and Madonna's vocals make it pure pop perfection. Just classic! (5/5)

2. Get Together: I didn't like this song a lot at first, but it has seriously grown on me. (4.5/5)

3. Sorry: I like this song a lot. It's very fun and catchy. (5/5)

4. Future Lovers: I freaking LOVE this song! Madonna's vocals and the melody push it over the top. I love the way Madonna sings the lyric "In the evidence of its brilliance." Perfection! (5/5)

5. I Love New York: Not Madonna's best song lyrically, but her attitude and sass make it fun. The "Confessions Tour" version is better in my opinion, though. (4.5/5)

6. Let It Will Be: This a really good song, and I like it a lot. (4.5/5)

7. Forbidden Love: This is another really good song, and Madonna sings it very well. Madonna also had a song on her 1994 "Bedtime Stories" album called "Forbidden Love" which I honestly preferred, though. (4.5/5)

8. Jump: This is another classic Madonna song. Great throbbing beat, and Madonna's vocals are fantastic. (5/5)

9. How High: I've always really liked this song. I think the melody is great. (4.5/5)

10. Isaac: This song has really grown on me over time. It is quite catchy. (4/5)

11. Push: This is my least favorite song on the album. It's good, just not my favorite. (3.5/5)

12. Like It Or Not: This is a very good song, and a great way to close the album. The lyrics are especially strong in my opinion. (4.5/5)

Overall: (4.54/5)"
This CD NEVER Gets Old

"I'm primarily a book reviewer (and author), so you won't get musical or technical analysis with this review.

All I can say is that I've listened to Madonna since the 80s (I was born in 1970), and this is her BEST CD ever in my opinion.

It reminds me of the music we used to listen to at roller rinks--a fusion of 70s disco and 80s poppiness and 90s insistent beat...with 21 Century techno tricks that makes this music sounds "old school", but fresh.

I love every song on this CD, and so does my family. Whether it's playing on the family stereo or in the car via mp3 player, we're always bobbing our heads, singing along or tapping our feet to Confessions on a Dance Floor.

I homeschool my 11 year old and I just asked him to put something upbeat in; he (wisely) chose this CD. We're listening to it now!

Immensely listenable, utterly enjoyable and very danceable (even spiritual, especially with Isaac)--you will no doubt this wonderful CD...even if you're not a die-hard Madonna fan. If I were allowed only 5 CDs (you know, desert island scenarior)--one would be Confessions on a Dance Floor.
