"Maggie Estep's "Love is a dog from Hell" is a brilliant link to her first effort, "No More Mister Nice Girl"(1994). When coupled with her equally brilliant and biting first novel, "Diary of an Emotional Idiot", you quickly become thrust into the turbulent, near-primordial pool that spawned her. Maggie's angst-driven, in your face views on life and living draw out all the emotions and experiences we have repressed from childhood, giving us pause to think about what really may have formed our personalities and caused us to become the people we are. From our first loves to our first jobs, Maggie stirs the deepest waters in all of us, causing anyone who listens to her hypnotic oratory to ask the question, "Who am I? And what the HELL am I doing here?" LOVE IS A DOG FROM HELL may be one of the testaments that truly defines the generation of people who have occupied the planet in the latter half of the 20th century better than any historian ever could.
