Suprisingly Good Mahler

"The Finnnish Radio Orchestra might not be the first ensemble that comes to mind when considering Mahler. But this recording will suprise some and perhaps stun others. The playing is outstanding in every section, particularly the brass. The strings hold their own as well, sounding rich and lush. The only complaint is that the tempo in IV is on the fast side, it seems as if Saraste never quite gets into the depth of this movement, but it is still beautifully played. Upon repeated listening this has become my first choice for this particular Mahler symphony. Try this recording, you will be pleasantly surprised!"
