"Mahler' s Seventh Symphony reveals a change to a positive view of the world. Conquest and victory occupy each one, its own limits. If the foreground is occupied by dark shadows of the night there are at the meantime friendly, natural and radiant sounds like if you were living a long period of time in a cave and you decide to break with these limits and to face the outdoors with all its implications. Bottomless visions, tragic passages but hovered by a driving force of risk and propulsive attitude no matter what you may find on the road.



Written during the weeks of summer holiday of 1905, this symphony has received successful performances through decades, but Hermann Scherchen' s approach this rhythmic expansive propulsion that literally conforms a tru micro cosmos by its own, filled with that nostalgic patina and fervent enthusiasm that doesn't appear in the score but that is easily felt even for the most naïve or debuting listener in these artistic challenge.



It may sound exaggerate but to my view, this is the Symphony in which Scherchen felt more comfortable. The expressive liberties and the winged phrasing make of this emblematic symphony personal landmark in the successful artistic career of this talented conductor.



So, in case you have not acquired it, certainly your personal collection will not be absolutely complete without this electrifying performance, recorded live in June 22 1950. The edition sound is extraordinary.
