Synopsis

Product Description
Rare 80s grooves from female soul trio Mai Tai. Mai Tai never really got over in the States, but made a pretty pronounced impact in the Dutch scene where the group formed, with a clean Euro electro soul sheen to the tracks courtesy of producers Eric Van Tajn & Jochem Fluitsma, but it's the vocals that really charm on this one. Corolien De Windt, Jetty Weels and Mildred Douglas bring true soul in their dynamic lead vocals and big backing vocals.

CD Reviews

Still as vibrant and energetic as it was in 1985

(5 out of 5 stars)

"This was the debut album of Dutch soul trio Mai Tai back in 1985. After having scored a couple of minor top 40 hits in Holland with 'What Goes On', 'Body and Soul' and the exquisite ballad 'Am I Losing You Forever', they hit the big time with the single 'History'. Significantly, the song became an even bigger hit in the UK, hitting the top 10.

This attractive re-release not only contains the 9 songs from the original album, but it has been remastered and expanded with the 12 inch versions of 'History', 'What, Where, When, Who' and the three major singles from their second album '1 Touch 2 Much', 'Female Intuition' and 'Turn Your Love Around' (the last two being 12 inch versions as well).

After their second album, Mai Tai slowly started to fade from view. Their next two singles 'Bet That's What You Say' and 'Fight Fire With Fire', as well as their third album 'Cool Is The Rule' were commercially far less successful.

When their brand-new single 'Dance In The Light' and an accompanying 'Best Of' album failed to set the charts alight again in 1988, Mildred unfortunately decided to leave the group to pursue a solo career. Although Mai Tai still exists today, they have never been able to repeat the heights of their peak period which was 1984-1986.

However, this 1985 debut album remains one of my favourite soul/disco albums of all time. It's still as vibrant and energetic today as it was back in 1985."
