CD ReviewsBeautiful and a bit surreal. Ancient yet contemporary. Merrill Hess | Albany, LA USA | 09/04/2000 (4 out of 5 stars) "A fine effort by one of France's most inventive groups. It is difficult to categorize Malicorne's music and this recording doesn't make it any easier. Like all of Malicorne's music it at least has its roots in French folk music. Yet there is a wide variety of styles to this recording. It begins with a pop sound with something slightly askew about it. They show their dynamic vocal style in the traditional sounding a capella 'Paysans sans Peur'. 'Chantier d'Et' could make good a soundtrack to Jean Cocteau 'Beauty and the Beast.' That's the best way I can describe it. It's folky and dreamlike with a slight circus-like mood to it. There is a wide variety of styles to this recording. In all of it Gabriel Yacoub's hand dominates, and that's good! Check his solo work. I highly recommend 'Bel.'"
