Way Ahead of Her Time

"I recently rediscovered Malvina when a friend of mine showed me some Youtube videos of her on the Pete Seeger show. She was a woman far, far ahead of her time in terms of protest music. A woman with just a guitar and a determination to bring to light the injustices of the world, she found fame when she was an older woman, but now her songs resonate even more. This collection represents not all, but certainly many, of her very potent and catchy tunes. The real gem of this album, however, is the version of "Little Houses" sung in Spanish, and the story that goes with it, told by Ms. Reynolds at a concert. It's a very moving story that reminds us just how powerful music can be to people all over the world."
A national treasure

"Everyone knows a couple of Malvina Reynolds songs, perhaps mostly through renditions by Pete Seeger. God Bless the Grass, and Little Boxes are very well known. This album carries it further. It includes many live performances that I don't think have ever been released before, some better than others sound-wise, but all are jems. Forget slick top 40 productions; this is the voice of a real human being expressing her feelings and thoughts. What else is music for but to bridge the distances between one another?"
