CD ReviewsA Wonderful Experience iota | 12/14/2004 (5 out of 5 stars) "Since I discovered this cd a few weeks ago, i'm listening to it over and over again. Mamoru used data aquired from plants and transposed it into musical scores for four players playing ancient medieval instruments from japan and europe, using quarter tone scales. Music using quarter tones is often academic and heavy listening, but not here. The cd is very harmonic in a positive sense (I refuse to like classical music written before 1900, even if it is as skillful as Bach, to explain the value i give the term "harmonic") and very listenable. After a few listenings, you remember many "hooks", like a good pop album. This cd will most likely make it to my all time top twenty, pure magic.
Note for nerds: this must be the perfect soundtrack for Gary William Flake's Book: The Computational Beauty of Nature. " |
