CD Reviews

Man - 'Greasy Truckers Party' (Voiceprint)
Mike Reed | USA | 01/21/2005
(3 out of 5 stars)

"To avoid any confusion, this isn't the various artists disc of the famed 1972 UK music festival, that featured cuts from the likes of Gong,Hawkwind,Brinsley Schwarz, etc. It's simply a 2-track,of what I would consider to be an EP of Man's performance at the Greasy Trucker's bash. The sound here is fine, but my main gripe is the CD's length,a measly total of 27 minutes. They should have tagged at least another song or two on this release. The twenty-one minute "Spunk Rock" is good and "Angel Easy" is a decent progressive rocker, but if you want to check out a really great Man effort, get their 'The 1999 Party Tour' disc(see my review).Pretty much reserved for completists."

"This CD does only include two tracks. However, its worth buying for the absolutely awesome version of "Spunk Rock". It runs for 22 minutes despite fading in approxomately 10 minutes after it started (according to Deke Leonard).

Spunk Rock is highly structured and brilliantly executed. The mix is terrific. Its great to hear a band in "The Zone" and the bass, drums and twin lead guitar play off each other very well indeed. I first heard this in 1973 when I was in my teens and it has not lost any of its sparkle.

Man are still a fine example of music being its own reward. Buy it!"
