"Amazing mix of psychedelia, blues and prog rock. Instrumental tracks such "Puella! Puella! (Woman! Woman!)" and "Castles Rise In Children's Eyes" are the highlights; but there are other excellent tracks ("Empty Room", "Missing Pieces", "In the Beggining", "Love" and, of course, "Erotica")."

"Man was a Welsh rock band that often seemed to have a split personality. They often play roots-oriented rock, which personally I find rather unremarkable, and they play some amazing prog and jam rock, often on the same album. Revelation, released in 1969, was their debut album and is an excellent example of prog with psych overtones, but because there are a few boogie and rootsy-oriented numbers, makes the album a little uneven in the long run, "Sudden Life" and "Blind Man" comes to mind. But what makes the album great is songs like "Empty Room", "Don't Just Stand There", "And in the Beginning", and the ever disturbing instrumental "Erotica". Don't ever play that song around friends and acquaintances. "The Future Hides Its Face" was basically another version of "In the Beginning" with some addition psychedelic effects and excerpts from a space mission (wasn't the Apollo Moon landing, since Revelation came out in March, 1969, several months before Neal Armstrong & Co. landed on the moon). There's one song, I think it was "The Missing Pieces" that comes right before "The Future Hides Its Face" that kept going "Sock it to me", which was a little strange given the type of music Man played (I can't help but be reminded of the late '60s TV series Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In when I hear that). This is Man with the original lineup of Roger "Deke" Leonard on guitar, Clive John on keyboards and guitar, Mike Jones on lead guitar, and Jeff Jones on drums, most of the members except Jeff Jones handled the vocals. Jeff Jones was later a member of a Jethro Tull spinoff called Wild Turkey (which featured ex-Tull bassist Glenn Cornick, guitarist "Tweke" Lewis, a later member of Man, John Blackmore, brother of Deep Purple's Ritchie Blackmore, and vocalist Garry Pickford-Hopkins, who sang on a couple of Rick Wakeman's albums). Nevertheless, Revelation is an excellent example prog/psych, and although it's a bit uneven in places, is a fine album."

"Absolutely stunning debut from Man.Originally released in 1969,'Revelation' was the band's very first release.The only other Man CD's I have are 'Greasy Truckers Party' and 'The 1999 Party Tour'(see my reviews).Great progressive psych here to be fully experienced.Such good playing.Best tracks are "And In The Beginning","Empty Room","And Castles Rise","Don't Just Stand There" and the best cut of the entire disc "Future Hides It's Face".Line-up:Deke Leonard-guitar&vocals,Clive John-keyboards,Ray Williams-bass,Mike Jones-lead guitar and Jeff Jones-drums.Should maybe appeal to fans of Wishbone Ash,Caravan,Trapeze and Uriah Heep."
