Album DescriptionAFter many years of being worldwide pop stars, Manfred Mann wrote a new chapter in the evolution of his career with the new outing Manfred Mann's Earth Band. After two fairly successful debut albums on the Polydor label in the early 70's, Mann and Co. sustained substantial album radio success with their third Earth Band platter Messin'. This third installment gave the listener an accurate feel for what the band sounded like when they played live in concert. Old Manfred Mann stable mate Mike Hugg's "Messin'" and Mann's "Buddha" are both evident of this live in the studio technique. As with the former efforts, Mann along with Mick Rodgers (guitar/vocals), Chris Slade of AC/DC and The Firm (drums), and Colin Pattenden (bass) provide the musical landscape for this memorable recording. While maintaining an ever-expanding line up of musical interpretations to their catalog of albums, the band explored new territory with Dr. John's "Mardi Gras Day" and the classic Bob Dylan tune "Get Your Rocks Off." Formerly released in a slightly different version in the United States as "Get Your Rocks Off" in 1973, these long sought after Mann recordings haven't been available to his U.S. fans for several years, until now. Friday Music is proud to continue the Manfred Mann's Earth Band/Creature Music re-issue series with their hard to find album Messin'. All in all, a wonderful third effort by Manfred Mann's Earth Band filled with several musical surprises that to this day continues to stand the test of time.
