Synopsis

Product Description
Sattva (Sanskrit for the essence of being ) invokes the silent, serene space that awaits us beyond our mind. On this soulful debut offering, gifted multi-instrumentalist Manish Vyas displays a splendid musical sensibility. His expressive voice and rich compositions based on ancient mantras and tarana reflect a natural intuition for crafting dynamic soundscapes from traditional influences. The product of a musical family and student of the late tabla maestro Ustad Allarakha (the father of Zakir Hussain), Manish demonstrates his astounding rhythmic talents--as well as his seductive vocal virtuosity and mastery of the santoor--to full effect. With contributions from longtime collaborator Prem Joshua (Water Down the Ganges, Dance of Shakti) and an international cast of gifted musicians, Sattva vibrates with silence, devotion and prayer--an ideal accompaniment to yoga, massage, meditation and enlightened listening.

Amazing Peace

(4 out of 5 stars)

"Manish combines excellent Indian classical sounds with neoclassical fusion of electronica. Also a good sampler of how Indian music is taking a global form. Tumi Bhaja re Mana evokes the soul to pray, Ishq is ode to eternal love, Shivoham is soul journey to Nirvana... U"

"After listening to the Indian music on the DVD "Concert for George", I wanted to find something similar so I started searching around and stumbled on this. If you listen to this on a low quality system, or on an I-Pod with ear buds, it may not sound like anything spectacular, but listen to it on a nice, powerful system with the volume up high and you will be moved! It's very powerful stuff that really created a euphoric feeling for me. Rich, varied sounds with incredible vocals. I will be searching for more music like this."

"the album is a very good example of fusion...........of east and west. the threads have been interwoven so beautifully that one just feel that this part is oriental and this is occidental.

the vocals he has rendered in "ishq" are really amazing. and at the end of all the songs u really feel refreshed. Good to listen to when you need to concentrate too........

overall avery good album"
