CD Reviews" Manteca " The Great Bongosero! Oswald Placeres | Netherlands | 03/29/2006 (5 out of 5 stars) "Lazaro Pla, known as "Mantaca" to all the Cubans, was one of the best bongoseros from Cuba. I had the pleasure to meet him in person back in 1977 in a night club, while attending a post class graduation celebration. His background goes back to the early days when he was the bongo player for the great Cuban pianist and composer Ernesto Lecuona and the Cuban Boys. This CD has a great variety of rhythms with Carlos (patato) Valdes on congas and Nelson (El Flaco) Pardon on timbales both great Cuban percussionists. + Lazaro Pla + (Manteca) R.I.P."
