"Alejandro Amenabar, the Spanish genius behind "Open Your Eyes" and "The Others" came back in 2004 with the movie "Mar Adentro" ("The Sea Inside"), which earned him an Oscar for Best Foreign Movie. However, it is not as common knowledge that he writes the scores to his movies, and this one was no exception.
With a story taking place in Galicia (a provice to the north of Spain, which was exposed to Celtic influences), it is no surprise that the music to the movie is loaded with sounds that will remind you of James Horner's score for "Braveheart". However, it is balanced with more subtle musical moments that bring to mind the score maestro Ennio Morricone wrote for "Cinema Paradiso".
If you liked the movie, you will love the soundtrack, and if you enjoy the soundtrack, you will fall in love with the landscapes it accompanies in the movie. As if in a symbiotic fashion, the two don't seem to be able to live without each other. And we all win, by getting a fantastic soundtrack to an even better movie."
