Synopsis
Album Description The fourth album from Philadelphia?s Marah and their first for Yep Roc, "20,000 Streets Under the Sky" is, by their own estimation, the album Dave & Serge Bielanko have always wanted to make. With songs about (in Serge?s words)"pigeons, cocaine, pizza, young love, bullets in the head, transvestites, a beautiful little baby, and the strange optimism one might feel watching jets take off in the evening at Newark Airport. "Streets" follows the Bielanko brothers?triumphant return to the road, energized by a dynamic new lineup (featuring Superchunk drummer Jon Wurster, multi-instrumentalist Kirk "the Barber" Henderson and lap steel whiz Mike "Slo-Mo" Brenner). This is the sound of a band gleefully taking their lives back into their own hands ? or as Serge puts it, "I guess you could say "20,000 Streets Under the Sky" is our love letter to people everywhere who, just like us, keep waking up everyday hoping to turn it all around...." CD ReviewsHurrah for Marah B. Prinkey | Philadelphia, PA United States | 09/08/2004 (4 out of 5 stars) "After recently seeing these guys in action, I have to say that they are one of the better original sounding bands that has hit the pub scene in quite a while. Energy. That seriously sums it up. They have got to be one of the only bands that I have seen that actually sound good on their CD, but even better in person." Wow. How did I never hear this before today? Geoffrey McNulty | Knoxville, TN USA | 03/21/2006 (5 out of 5 stars) "I'm an avid fan of pandora dot com, a website that lets you create your own radio station. Today, "Freedom Park" by Marah came on, and it blew my mind. I immediately downloaded the whole album from iTunes, and I love every minute."
