"Play any of the tracks on this CD to a casual listener and you'll soon be asked, "Who is the tenor?". Marcel Wittrisch was one of those tenors of the 1930s who somehow knew how to lure, entice and demand the attention of anyone who listened to gramophone records. Pavilion Records have collected, transferred and presented some of the tenor's best opera and operetta records, showing the tenor in romantic character involvement of one sort or another with sopranos Teschemacher, Schone, Berger, Frind and Heidersbach. Everything is sung in German. Having owned many of the items in their original 78 format, I can say that these 1998 transfers by Roger Beardsley are of top quality."
