"I enjoyed watching Brooklyn's Finest, as any fan of The Wire might, and thought Brazilian composer Marcelo Zarvos did well with the score. I first heard his work in Sin Nombre, and Zarvos has a similar emphasis on strings for the Brooklyn's Finest soundtrack.

I'm a bigger fan of the Sin Nombre score because of how diverse the songs were. Brooklyn's Finest is 18 tracks, and while it doesn't get too repetitious, the songs do stay within the same theme. Overall it lends a real feeling of suspense to the film.

Tango and Caz is one of the more touching works on the album, it captures the tragic sense of brotherhood between the undercover cop and his criminal friend. The standout track for me was "Halloween at the Academy", a somber violin and harp fueled inclusion to the soundtrack. "I Believe You" is one of the only songs that uses a basic piano melody; very simple but effectively dramatic for film purposes.

If I had a complaint, it's that I thought the reverb percussion effect was a little overdone. If you're a fan of Marcelo Zarvos, I think that you'll find Brooklyn's Finest isn't as powerful a soundtrack as Sin Nombre. This isn't the best score that I've heard this year, but it's still very good."
