"i went to brazil for carnival and saw margareth menezes singing live on her "mascaradas" carnival float...she was simply amazing as a carnival entertainer and the (mostly gay) crowd went absolutely wild as she sang...this CD has her latest big hits, among which "dandalunda" was voted best song of salvador's 2003 carnival...this year she will be back at carnival with carlinhos brown in a new bloco and thanks to this CD she will surely be a hit again... though despite her carnavalesque persona, some of the songs i most like on the CD are the slower, more tranquil songs like "Preciso", a lovely little tune...i don't know if it says more about me or about margareth menezes, but of the dozen CD's i brought back from brazil, this is the one i have ended up listening to the most!"

"Margareth Menezes' latest album follows nicely from her 90s efforts with more of the same Afro-Brazilian fusion that made her famous but with a slightly more polished feel that should satisfy her many international fans and the purists alike. The album includes the hit single "Dandalunda", the live performance of which became the highlight of Salvador's 2003 Carnival celebrations where Margareth's sets have achieved legendary status over the last few years. Ironically, the track is my least favourite on an otherwise excellent album which also includes another live favourite of hers, "Do Mar, Do Céu, Do Campo". Produced by Carlinhos Brown (of Tribalistas fame), this is quality Brazilian music with a twist. You don't need to speak Portuguese to appreciate it either as the rhythm will win you over within a few minutes of listening. A worthy addition to your collection and well worth the import price."
