Can I Be Mariah's Loverboy?

"Loverboy is one of my favorite Mariah tracks because its so laid back and it makes anyone get into a happy mood. The beats are SICK and Mariah's smooth voice tops it off to make a beautiful hit. Go Mariah!"
WHAT?!!!

"I've been a Mariah fan ever since 'Vision of Love', and I've loved every record since then, but the first time I heard this monstrosity, there was just no comment available. Is this really that same woman who delivered timeless hits. Is she that same person who topped the Billboard charts for 16 weeks, with one of her greatest singles to date? If so, I'd like to know how you go from producing huge hits like 'Fantasy' and 'Dreamlover', to cringing material like this. Fair enough, she was on the verge of a nervous breakdown, but her record company, Virgin, should have seen the havoc that this song (and album, for that matter) would wreak into the music industry. Her most recent songs are bearable and deserve quite a lot of credit, but this has no melody, structure, or singing to be quite honest. We just have a whole gang of rappers all over the place, with Mariah blending into the background, and nothing can be said for the video, except "huh?". This, without a doubt, is Mariah's worst single to date."
Not All That, Lovergal

"It is hard to believe it, when an artist does try to make themselves into another kind of sound, it doesn't really have a feeling all the way anyway. That was the case with Mariah Carey. She began to stretch herself out with a Hip Hop style in the late 90's, and experimented her way to the top. Unfortunately, it wasn't in this song. Loverboy, the first of only two singles from her movie, Glitter, really isn't as strong or as upbeat as any of her earlier songs, when she was a down to Earth diva. The song also includes Cameo as a guest appearance, which really wasn't the right mix from the Funk band of their day. Anyway, Mariah did improve with Through The Rain, but not here."
Not Great

"All the fans here saying that the reason this song didn't do well is because of Tommy Motolla are WRONG. This song was dissed because it's just not a good song, and that tacky video certainly didn't help.
However, Mariah IS a great vocalist, is beautiful to look at, and certainly isn't a ho. You can't judge a singer by just one song. Look into her back catalogue and you'll see all the GREAT songs she did.
