The youthful vocalist from the Chicago area is from a musical family-- her mother is Ann Perillo, noted singer and educator. Currently Ms. Michuda gives concerts and recitals around the Chicago area, and also teaches voice within the Musical Theater Department at Northwestern University. The songs included on this CD trace the history of American Musical Theatre with a blend of familiar and lesser known works. The soprano voice is clear and emotional projecting a maturity beyond her youth. Marie brings a fresh vigor to the now-classic composition, "People." Sondheim's "Loving You" opens with a smooth verse intro and slides into an easy and sexy jazz groove with trio, projecting the profound beauty of his near perfect melody. Rodgers & Hammerstein's "Lonely Goatherd" is given a straightforward reading, with amazing vocal flexibility. Marie Michuda is a modern singer who is equally at home singing songs of musical theatre and opera. There is beauty and honesty in her tone.
