The best Billie Holiday's clone

"Some of the greatest female jazz singers confessed their Billie Holiday's influence. But none them put in records the Lady Day touch with a perfect emulation such as did Marilyn Moore. She sang exactly like Billie Holiday. Her only legacy in CD is this remastered collection from a 1957's LP for Bethelem label, reprinted by Toshiba/EMI in Japan. The album is pure gold to jazz aficionados. Moore was superb in sad or happy tunes. With her husband Al Cohn and a small group (Don Arney at the piano, Joe Wilder on trumpet , Barry Galbraith on guitar, Osie Johnson on drums and the legendary Milt Hinton on bass, besides Cohn in tenor and clarinet), she sounds melancholic in "Trav'lin all alone" and swings tenderly in Romberg-Hammerstein's standard "Lover come back to me". She left the show business few years after this recording and died in 1992. If not, Billie Holiday would be alive through Moore's voice for many years. By the way: Lady Day loved the album!"
