What makes her original compositions so special is their deeply emotive quality which celebrates the essence of peace and harmony. Marina's music is used by many in the healing professions to invoke a state of tranquility and a sense of closeness to nature. Marina was born in Africa where she spent her first ten years. She draws inspiration from her deep love for the Earth as she shares her vision of the awakening of peace in every heart. Trained as a classical musician, Marina has been called a sonic shaman because of her mastery of the native flute. Her instruments are hand-crafted by her husband, flutemaker Charlie Oakwind. Marina and Charlie live in western North Carolina, where they have a green-built, solar-powered home. They are committed to living gently on the Earth. The Story of Keepers of the Light Keepers of the Light features my flutes with guest artist Dr. Harold Grandstaff Moses playing his soulful viola and sacred harmonic overtones. I first heard Harold play at an international trade show in Denver thirteen years ago. I was deeply moved by the depth of emotion he expressed through his beautiful music and knew then that someday he would be the guest artist on one of my CDs. The flute and viola float on luminous harmonic overtones especially created by Harold to enhance the healing qualities of this music. Harold has stated, "I am honored to create these sacred overtone arrays to match Marina's uniquely expressive flutes. Each Harmonic Drone provides both a firm grounding and a shimmering upward energy, allowing this music to fly between Heaven and Earth." Keepers of the Light is dedicated in loving memory of two very dear friends: Alan Scherr and his thirteen-year old daughter, Naomi, who were killed by terrorists in Mumbai, India, in November, 2008. However, the music is not about grief. It is a sublime celebration of Light and Peace. It is my heartfelt wish that Keepers of the Light serve as an instrument for the healing of humanity.
