Synopsis
Album Description Green Acres is a compilation of original material recorded live in the studio. Mark Weigel, the songwriter, sings and plays the acoustic guitar on the CD, accompanied on vocals by his wife, Dyllan McGee. The concept for the project was born out of several songs written for Mark and Dyllan's friends' weddings. Other tunes on the album include: "Apple Town" - a song written for Dyllan, who was in New York at the time, while Mark was at graduate school in Boston; "Mr Mercy Train" - A song about a singer-songwriter friend of Mark's when Mark was playing solo gigs in Colorado; "Silly Girl" - a children's song written for Mark's niece Monica; "Oh, Nederland" - an anthem for the small mountain town in Colorado where Mark spent some post college days with his band the Chowder; and "Bad News, No Blues" - a live recording of when Mark performed at Club Passim in Cambridge, MA during his Graduate School days in Boston. Mark and Dyllan gave this CD out at their wedding to reasonable acclaim (that's what friends are for.) The genre of the album is folk rock in the style of James Taylor and Paul Simon. |
CD ReviewsGreat original music from a very talented new artist w_muecke | San Francisco, CA United States | 01/17/2002 (5 out of 5 stars) "If you like JT, Robbie Fulks, Bruce Cockburn and the like, you will really enjoy the music Mr. Weigel has made made on this CD. The songs themselves are each individual gems that span the musical range of fast and rockin' (Apple Town), to uplifitng (Jubilee), to just plain silly (Silly Girl). Mr. Weigel shows great skill at creating wonderful listening tunes that carry such richly woven lyrics that they both haunt and inspire, make you laugh while bringing a lump to your throat. The humanity that Mr. Weigel brings to his art is wonderful; I look forward to the next CD release. Truly a great purchase--I have two: one that lives in my car and one that spins on my home CD player. (I have gotten strange looks at stoplights singing along to Apple Town at the top of my lungs--guess I should have rolled up the windows...no such critical audience at home.)"
