Immature a.k.a Imx's front man gives us an excellent debut

"When Immature burst onto the scene back in 1992 it was always clear that Marques was the star of the group. When Marques finally went solo eleven years one had to wonder would have success like Ralph Tresvant & Michael Jackson or would he flop like Marc Nelson and Tony Thompson? Luckily Marques had success like the former singers. The first single That Girl written by a young Ne-Yo & produced by R. Kelly received little acclaim however his second single Clubbin was a huge hit stateside & overseas. While the second single Pop That Booty didn't catch on in the states it fared very well in the UK. The only ballad single released from the album was Because Of You, which is ironic because the strength of the album in the ballads. Marques excels on Cancel & Good Luck but the sweet Can I Call You & honest Love's A Game is where Houston effortlessly flexes his considerable vocal skills the most effective. Marques Houston is well on his way to being one of the better singers in R&B and is one of the few singers actually doing something right in the Genre.

"Former lead singer of Immature Marques "Batman" Houston brings us his self-titled debut, "MH". His voice has never been anything grand, but this is the first time I was able to hear his vocal ability and take a good listen to his voice. After I took an intense listen, it adds credence to my opinion. He does not sound as good as most of his contemporaries. In all honesty, his voice isn't even good. When an artist has a below average voice, it is imperative that they produce the best material possible. And with, "MH", this request was not fulfilled.



Collectively, this album had mediocre production, alright lyrics and an average job vocally by Houston. This is a CD I would toss to the side after a listen. "I Can Be the One" is one out of a sea of ordinary tracks. With this song, Houston is bragging about all that he can be to a woman. Lil' Fizz added his sorry touch to "Actin' Up". Neither of the artists did a good job on this song. The lyrics and production are corny. The production of this song sounds recycled, like something R. Kelly (who produced much of this album) has already done. "Because of You" is the only memorable song on this album. Everything is great about it. Houston put much emotion into the song, which only made the meaningful lyrics sound better. Overall, its a very good mid-tempo track. "Pop That Booty", "Clubbin'", and "That Girl" were all released from this LP. The public enjoyed these songs because they received much airplay. I enjoyed "Clubbin'" the most, and Joe Budden definitely helped with that. That's one of today's best rappers and he spit fire on this track. The other two releases were just not good.



Houston needs to step his game up because a lot of his competitors create better music than this. If he wants a better review for his other works, he should try to step outside of the box a little, because by him attempting to "fit in", its simply making me forget about him. Keep this one on the shelves.
