Album DescriptionWelcome to the work of a sister spirit. Marshell Jones preaches daily from her gospel of self-love. With her debut CD Evidence of Things Not Seen, the New York-based vocalist/song-writer from Baltimore, is sweet enough to share some of her insights. A funky mélange of jazz and classic soul, Marshell's original compositions entice the ear with their lyrical wit and gutsy melodies. A master of the art of improvisation, she creatively synthesizes music and poetry to weave stories of life, love and other unsolved mysteries. Marshell's performances highlight her amazing ability to stretch the limits of the first instrument: the human voice. In a most evocative way, Marshell integrates her five-octave instrument into the rich soundscape of the ensemble, traversing an impressive spectrum of cultures, times and emotions. This is sonic incense, tae-bo for our consciousness, the steaming medicine of herbal tea. This CD sounds like Baltimore & Berkeley, Brooklyn & Brazil, Senegal, Hawaii and somewhere close to you. Can you tell? Listen like There's No Tomorrow... From a review by Dusty Groove America: "A very unique album from singer Marshell Jones -- a talented vocalist with a style that stretches back to the spiritual jazz traditions of the mid 70s. Some of the tracks on the set features Jones singing almost unaccompanied -- in a mode that might be NuSoul, but which opens up more spiritually from the lack of instrumentation. Other tracks have small combo backing behind her -- either playing in groove, as on the modal number "Reachin", or in a more outside style, as on the cut "Fetu Lele". There's a few rough spots -- but there's also some great moments on the set, ones that show Jones as a potentially strong soul talent, with a vision for unique styles that's not shared by her contemporaries!"
