CD ReviewsBeautiful voice with incredible attitude. Derek B. Pratt | Auburn, AL USA | 10/01/2004 (5 out of 5 stars) "I have just returned from seeing Martha's trouble live for the first time. 8 of my friends piled into a table and diverted our attention away from the screaming alcoholics in the background and focused fully on the beautiful talent on stage. First I must comment on Jen's (The lead singer) voice. Crystal clear, if I didn't know better I would swear she wasn't really singing. Pure talent that is so hard to find. She sits in a char with a bongo between her legs and an assortment of small noise-makers to add to the effect. Her husband Rob stands beside her playing guitar and a base player who keeps smiling at his friend who is seated one table over. The three of them together shoot out song after song, for 4 fantastic hours, including one cover of nora Jones' popular song and happy birthday to a fellow drunk girl. Singing various songs from all of her albums, "Story of two cities" nearly brought me to tears, "The road ahead" lifted my spirits, along with every song played tonight. I have yet to find a song by them I do not like. During a small break Jen sat down with us and talked about how happy she was that we could make it and how excited she was that we sang along with her songs. Wow, humble as well as multi-talented! She autographed a copy of her newest album "Forget october" and ran back to the stage to continue her concert. We stayed until the very last song, after she asked if we had any requests and resang our favorite song "Waverly" (Also from the forget october album). After the show was over and we were about to leave she and her husband, who has an amazing voice used not nearly enough, approached us again and thanked us for supporting their music. I asked if her husband was planning on singing any solos sometime, and she's talking him into it. I also asked what her favorite song to perform was, which she replied "Forget october" (number 8 from the self-titled album.) I left the concert feeling very fulfilled and lifted up. Although this review seems more for the "Forget october" album, I fully enjoy "The road ahead." Meeting the band has made me fall in love with their music even more. There is so much charm and happiness between them all, it's amazing. Their albums are so full of heart and soul. I recomend their albums to anyone and you should all catch them live if they are ever near you."
