""Stardust", a version of the David Essex classic, is the first single from Martin L. Gore's second solo effort "Counterfeit²."
At 3:08, it's just a slice of what's to come from Mr. Martin L. Gore's new covers album. (Check out the video if you get the chance!) This song is a lush mixture of sci-fi electronica, echoes and bleeps. The real sleeper is the second track "I Cast A Lonesome Shadow" (a Hank Thompson song). This track is a remix and clocks in at 5:31. Probably a better choice as a lead single but Martin's not out to please the Top 40 crowd! Martin's voice is deep in the mix on this song, which allows the mix to shine. If you take a listen to the lyrics, you'll find that as usual in Martin's arrangements, an upbeat tempo is combined with lyrics of personal turmoil: "The image of a love I lost and all the things I'd planned
Are as empty as this bottle that I hold in my hand
My soul is buried in the depths of love and life's pitfalls
And I cast a lonesome shadow on these lonely, lonely walls."Finally is a Marc Bolan cover "Life is Strange." Short and sweet. Thanks Marty!"
