Mixing Voivod-esque dissonant chords with complex (and very heavy) riffing, odd timesignatures and very precise metal that is somewhat hard to categorize, this album is a total killer. Styles vary from metal-jazz to thrash to death, without getting confusing.



Production is top notch, with all instruments being clear, precise and very powerfull.



To friends of prog-thrash, death or just all thing metal, GET THIS ALBUM!"

"Canada's overlooked tech-death team is back with their first album in six years, and this really shows the band coming back stronger than before. Their previous works, 1997's "Hopeless Hopes" and 2000's "Warp Zone", were already well played, well crafted, and executed with excellence. The same can be said for "Feeding The Abscess". The band doesn't let up their technicality one bit here. We still have the complex structures and mindblowing solos they were well known for before, and the production is excellent! What else can I say? If you enjoy technical music that makes you really think, don't hesitate on getting "Feeding The Abscess"."

"I've always had a hard time getting into death metal. In general I like heavier sounding stuff but a lot of death metal simply bores the crap out of me. I bought this CD because I read that Dan Mongrain had taken over guitar for Voivod after Piggy's death and I wanted to see what kind of guitar player could fill in for him. This CD was a total unexpected surprise for me. I love it. It's kind of like VoiVod meets ... well ... meets something, I'm not sure what. It's very heavy, very fast and most importantly very very tight! However it is really complex too. The vocals sound a lot like Slayer in places but the music is really nothing like slayer. At other points the vocals take on a more death metal sound. There are a lot of rhythm changes, irregular beats and full on VoiVodish dissonance. The last song Brain Scan is actually a Voivod cover and it fits right in with the rest of the CD. However I don't want to overstate the similarities to Voivod. Martyr is definitely its own band with its own unique sound. It is somewhat of an onslaught on the senses, so just don't expect Judas Priest or something. If you are even reading this you probably aren't but it never hurts to be explicit."
