CD ReviewsSpotlight Lee Armstrong | Winterville, NC United States | 05/13/2005 (4 out of 5 stars) "This is a CD that's in my collection thanks to the sterling reviews on this web site. This is a strong outing from a powerful vocalist. Her covers are well done. John Hiatt's "Cry Love" is fully realized. Hiatt is such a unique songwriter that you can usually tell it's one of his songs even when another artist covers it. I was really surprised after listening to the entire CD in my car when a subsequent listening at home showed this was a Hiatt tune. Very impressive. "Stop In the Name of Love" is the MOST different take on this track I've ever heard. Slowing down the melody allows Redmond to really get into the lyric's emotional desperation. Jerry Butler's "I've Been Loving You Too Long" has been done by many singers. Mary Ann may not eclipse Otis Redding for me, but she certainly does a great reading of this classic sad song. My favorite track is Patty Griffin's "Time Will Do the Talking." Redmond gets an addictive groove going that sets your toe tapping. "Here I Am" is a great set from a singer who belongs in the spotlight. Enjoy!" STOP - Go immediately to the Record Store D. Reece | 08/15/2002 (5 out of 5 stars) "A friend made me a CD of different people he wanted me to hear. Everything was pretty much as I expected until I hit "Cry Love" by Mary Ann Redmond. I backed the recording up time after time while trying to read his label for the artist performing this song. And then I got to the point in the song where she hits a note on "Cry Love" and holds it for 15-20 seconds - stunning. I immediately rushed to the nearest record store and prayed that they would have this CD. This album is great. I have been playing it for several days straight and still pause to listen when certain phrases come on. Her voice is at times like Tina Turner, at times like Aretha Franklin, and at times just an aural treat. Get the CD - listen for yourself." An extraordinary album! Big Joe Taylor | New York, NY | 03/23/2004 (5 out of 5 stars) "Beginning with the first cut, "Cry Love," this whole album is just amazing. Mary Ann Redmond is a real talent, with a big, soulful voice and strong tunes. This was an experiment for me, but boy am I glad I found out about this lady and this CD. I found this album is easily, easily worth the money. If you have any interest in real gutsy vocals and something different than the shlock on the radio, by all means try this."
