Synopsis

Product Description
Imagine floating down the Suwannee River by old Steamboat. Can't you hear the banjo voices drift from shore, often haunting, but sometimes rumbling a tune that coaxes you to jump up and dance barefoot? Here are fresh arrangements of our favorite traditional tunes from America, Scotland, France, and Germany, played in many different tunings on six different banjos. Tracks 1, 3, 10, 12 & 13 are recorded on a Goldtone Elite Classic set up with the finest gut strings known to man. Tracks 2, 7, 8, & 15 are recorded on my new custom Deering White Shell Laydie. (This is the only model in the world ) Track 9 is recorded on a Lo Gordon, Cedar Mountain A2. Guitar accompaniment by Bob Cox and Ellen Scruggs Sheppard on tracks 2, 4, 6, 7, 9, 11, 13, & 15 There are double tracked banjo duets on tracks 4 (Gibson RB250 and a Bacon Professional with an internal resonator) and 8 (White Shell Laydie & a Jeff Menzie?s gourd banjo. ) www.maryzcox.com

CD Reviews

From the Old Time Herald
Mary Z. Cox | Tallahassee, FL USA | 05/20/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)

""The recording quality on Banjo Dreamin' is excellent, perhaps even better than on her earlier recording I reviewed, the Secret Life of Banjo. On this one, you can hear the thumps on the banjo head, and if a low string buzzes a little, you can hear it. With this much clarity and honestry in the recording process, Mary's style shines. Her playing is clean and complex but not cluttered. I think clawhammer banjo players and those interested in old time music will find that both the sounds of Mary's banjos and the tunes on this CD very engaging"--Pat Walke (from The Old Time Herald/December 2006-January2007 isssue)"
