"Muti's recording of the Cavalleria Rusicana, Pagliacci is one of the very best. Carreras is most impassioned, singing both tenor roles. He is in gorgeous voice here - one of his very greatest recordings. Caballe is exquisite, if a little detached drmatically, as Santuzza. Still, a vocally sumptuous reading. Scotto, on the other hand is completely on fire as Nedda - wow! Her upper register is not always as secure as Caballe's, but she has the verismo style in her voice like few other modern sopranos. Muti conducts a taut, intense reading and the recorded sound is exceptional. Don't miss this one...
