CD Reviews

One of the few club anthem series that is still going strong
Daniel W. Kelly | Long Island, NY United States | 04/13/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Masterbeat consistently brings us many of the biggest club anthems that don't find their way to CD, and with this volume, they rarely skimp on letting the songs play out to a good length. Deep Influence, Inaya Day, Tony Moran, Suzanne Palmer, Offer Nissim--they all get close to or over 8 minutes of air time.

This is mostly a diva set, with a couple of male vocal tracks and many Tony Moran mixes and productions. Track times and individual comments:

1. fiesta fatal...deep influence (8:30) (a hard tribal track with a female vocalist singing the main hook from the Arpeggio disco classic "Love and Desire". Very hot)

2. U spin me...inaya day (9:25) (Just as Jessica Simpson offered a little spin on lyrics and melody of the Dead or Alive classic for her latest CD, Inaya does something similar here, also keeping that tapping rhythm sound that is the trademark of the original song)

3. Elektro...outwork (6:49) (hokey novelty. Tribal elektro track with a male voice telling us all about the elektro, the new style of music. He also does a hook-laden scat. Sure takes you down a notch from the previous peak hour slammer)

4. It's my life...blush (6:59) (Good strong club mix thanks to Tony Moran production. Female vocals sound like that of a young R&B girl group mixed into a club sound)

5. Something about you...tony moran (7:51) (production is strong because it's Tony Moran, but the male vocal--I assume he's singing--sounds like an 80s male freestyle vocalist, and just can't compete with the quality of the mix.)

6. I feel alive...noel (7:30) (I'm going to guess this IS the male freestyle vocalist from the 80s. this track is again produced by Moran, and somewhat better than the previous track.)

7. Free my love...Suzanne palmer (7:23) (The offer nissim mini-set. As perfect a diva anthem as Palmer meets Nissim can get)

8. For your love...offer nissim featuring maya (8:07) (a surprisingly mellow, floaty, almost trancy track by this team. Slows down this party)

9 .alright...red carpet (7:33) (Just when I thought I couldn't stand to hear another remix of this overplayed tune, this mix gives it new life. But the bored vocals still get to me after a while. The mix is better than the vocals...)

10. Let's get together...soul logic (8:09) (this is such an uplifting, airy circuit anthem, very sing-song. Not for everyone, but a good way to end this set, nonetheless.)"
