The best of the Masters' greatest hits compilations

"The Masters' Apprentices were one of Australia's greatest bands of the late 1960s and early 1970s. They started out sounding like Yardbirds clones, but by the second album has developed a distinctive sound -- really strong songwriting, a sometimes somewhat spacy sound, with lots of nifty guitar and great harmonies. No-one else has ever sounded like them. This compilation has all of the singles and the strongest two or three cuts from each album. So you get some fairly lame early stuff, and some good but uncharacteristic singles (such as the incredibly catchy Turn Up Your Radio -- hear it once and you'll never forget it). And then there are about fifteen songs that absolutely define the band, culminating with a magnificent thing called Love Is, one of the best songs of the sixties (even if it WAS released in 1972). If you want a CD that is more coherent than this greatest hits package, go for the real thing: the band's best album was A Toast To Panama Red. There's not a weak track on that one, and it even has Love Is on it. Whichever you buy first, you'll probably want the other one next. (And the one to buy third is Choice Cuts, which is a bit tougher to find on CD, although it does exist.)"
Some good tracks.

"The Masters Apprentices cd has some catchy tracks of different styles.Firstly, they started with some rough but very catchy tunes such as "hot gully wind" and "buried and dead".Then,as they improved the sound became cleaner. The best song on this cd is "It's Because I Love You" which is an underrated classic. It should have been a million seller, but in those days,Australian groups had a hard time getting overseas acceptance possibly because of inexperienced managers."
