"I love Michael Caine, so I bought the original "Italian Job" on DVD of course. THEN I wanted the theme, "On Days Like These" AND of course I wanted it by the original artist. Well, it took me awhile to nail that information down, and when I did I finally found this album. Matt Monro sung that original theme, as well as several other movie themes of the era. He is well known for the James Bond theme, but he also did the theme from "The Quiller Memorandum", which I also wanted badly a few months ago after seeing the film once more (great film). Well, imagine my surprise when I looked on this album on my shelf and found "Wednesday's Child", the theme from "The Quiller Memorandum." Well, all I can say is if you are either nostalgic for the movie themes of the 60s or you just love that stuff - get this album!! Get even more Matt Monro here on Amazon!"

"Matt Monro enjoyed great success in his heyday; and his artistry was so special that he will never be forgotten. This album of beautiful love songs neatly showcases Matt's remarkable talent; it's great for his fans as well as people who want to dance late at night with their sweethearts all alone in their living room. The quality of the sound is excellent and the artwork is very well done.
"Portrait of My Love" has Matt singing at his very finest; his excellent diction enhances his performance and the tune is easy on the ear, to say the least. The number makes good use of the strings, too. Great! "Softly, as I Leave You" is a gorgeous number that Matt sings most passionately; and that's grand. He never skips a beat and I'm very impressed. In addition, "Can This Be Love" lets Matt open up and sing using a somewhat wider range of his voice; I really like this number and "My Kind of Girl" is a masterpiece in Matt's capable hands--what a sweet, elegant number!
"When Love Comes Along" has a fine piano arrangement that accompanies Matt perfectly; this music lacks nothing--it's all THAT good. Moreover, Matt's rendition of the theme from "The Godfather" is outstanding--I love it. "Wednesday's Child" is quite good also. I particularly enjoy hearing Matt Monro perform "Time After Time;" it's numbers like this that prove Matt Monro's talent was very special. He certainly wasn't just another "celebrity!" "Love Walked In" gets a spirited treatment from Matt and the musicians--but wisely the musicians never try to steal the spotlight from Matt; he remains squarely front and center which is right where he belongs! "A Time for Love" stuns me with its beauty, too. "A Time for Love" is a major highlight of this CD.
"Answer Me" has a lush musical arrangement to complement Matt's wonderful singing; you're bound to like this tune if you haven't heard it before. "A Man and a Woman" is another stunner; just one listen proves it! "A Man and a Woman" never sounded better than when Matt sang it--wow, how he delivers this with panache! His sophisticated phrasing makes "A Man and a Woman" even better, too. "On Days Like These" is easily another classic that's also easy on the ear; and listen for "Didn't We." Matt outdoes even himself on "Didn't We;" and that's grand.
"Alguien Canto (The Music Played)" strikes me with its beauty; Matt sings this in Spanish with grace and a great deal of genuine emotion and it all holds its own very well. "Be My Love" is simply beautiful and the CD ends strong with Matt Monro performing a splendid version of "You Light up My Life." What an ending number!
Matt Monro fans will cherish this album; it's also quite good for lovers and newcomers just discovering the magical talents of Matt Monro. This is a keeper for sure!"

"Matt Monro (1930-1985) was Britain's musical gift to America in the 1960s and 1970s. He sings 24 of the timeless love ballads of that era. His rendition of And We Were Lovers from the movie "Sand Pebbles" is worth the price of admission. This CD stimulates memories from the past."
