"Simply put, the Brasilian master of the harmonica, Seu Mauricio makes a tribute to the legend Toots Theilmanns, who put the jazz chromatic harmonica on the map from his most famous "Bluesette'!
While I prefer Mauricio in the setting of the música instrumental brasileira , making musics of his own creation and of grande compositions from the país, it is hard to criticise most of the choices of the best of the USA "tin Pan Alley" songbook, only Duke Ellington's "Satin Doll" is SO much recorded, I wish Maurição would have chose another selection.
Nice touch to introduce to the USA audiences, but I recommend to look for other recordings from this wizard of melodia!
Revered as TOP sessions man, 1st call in Braz, and no less than Victor Assis Brasil wrote a song for him , which compares to when Miles Davis would write a song for one "fratelli músicisti" that he admired!
Oh, and also listen his incredible version of the Bluesette, and then make the time to find Toots Theilmann's fabulous 2 volume recording of the Brasil songbook , MPB style with the crema of the wonderful artistas Braz offers terra!
tudo é som
