Album DescriptionOne of the truly great vocalists of the swing era,Maxine Sullivan (along with her husband - the great bandleaderJohn Kirby), had the unique distinction of being the first BlackJazz stars to have their own weekly radio show. Maxine's firstrecording session in 1937 produced her biggest hit - "Loch Lomond," ajazz interpretation of a Scottish folk song that remained her signaturetune throughout her five decade long career. This legendary 1956 sessionmarked a return to recording for Maxine after a long absence from thestudio, and found her in the company of jazz giants Milt Hinton, BusterBailey, Jerome Richardson, Dick Hyman and Charlie Shavers. Thesession was produced by the great jazz historian Leonard Feather whoassembled the cast of all-stars especially for this recording which manybelieve to be the best of Ms. Sullivan's career. The album was a specialtribute to one of jazz music's greatest songwriters, Andy Razaf ("Ain'tMisbehavin'," "Honeysuckle Rose.") As an added bonus, we haveincluded two bonus tracks including an updated version of Maxine'sbiggest hit "Loch Lomond" recorded that same year.
