CD Reviews

Good Maxi-Single
Westley | Stuck in my head | 07/22/2003
(4 out of 5 stars)

"If you're not familiar with Mazzy Star, they were a 90s modern rock group lead by singer Hope Sandoval (who also wrote most of their material). Sandoval subsequently went solo, and they ended up only recording three CDs as Mazzy Star. This maxi-single CD includes 4 songs:Fade Into You - Really beautiful, atmospheric modern rock song that's been played a million times on TV shows and movies. I really love the song, which is also available on their "So Tonight That I Might See" CD.I'm Gonna Bake My Biscuit - Remake of a song written by Minnie McCoy (AKA Memphis Minnie) and recorded by her during the 1920s. I like this song also because it's such an unexpected remake, and it has a great pseudo-blues sound.Under My Car - ok song that was previously unreleased.Bells Ring (Acoustic Version) - The original version is also available on their "So Tonight That I Might See" CD. A very pretty song with strings likely to appeal to fans of "Fade Into You.""
Nice Sampling of Somber Alt Rock Music

(5 out of 5 stars)

"I mainly bought this CD single for the song "Fade Into You," which is a terrific, dreamy opener on here, as well as on Mazzy Star's "So Tonight That I May See" album. A close second favorite of mine is track #3: "Under My Car"--a somewhat morbid and airy tune--which (as far as I know) isn't available on any of their other CDs.The remaining two songs were enjoyable as well--"I'm Gonna Bake My Biscuit" [#2] (though it took me a few listens to like it) and "Bells Ring (Acoustic Version)" [#4]--the latter song also available on "So Tonight That I May See," but in its original version. Overall, a nice sampling of somber alt rock music. (4 tracks in total)"
