"Though the most underserved modern rock-oriented group in this country lightens up a tad from their first three albums, the stylings of Francis McKendree and academy confrers still exude a sense of the conflicted. It is immense fun to hear a well-crafted piece about diving for dimes in a sidewalk sewer on "watch those pennies", only to be overtaken with the stark intimations of doom on "train to dixie". My opinion of the best of this opus is in the work of Mike Dreyfuss on "light up the skies" - the power and novelty of an electrified violin is quite remarkable. It is with the Woods/McKendree collaboration "underground railroad" however that this group is at their best, shining a spotlight on a phenomenon of the 60's that evinced a possibile small transcedence of the 'strictly from commercial' world that too often holds sway. An aspect - a product of the zeitgeist and gemucktlikeit of their times - that remains striking after thirty years is that these classically trained and likewise minded young men seemed to innately feel the power of music to get something "important" across its tendrils and circuits, and they did not want to discount this time they shared with all its modern armamenture and potential. This album shows that while partially the truth, not all McKendree Spring was difficult, stentorian and/or inaccessible."

"It is a good album It is more folk orientated than previous albums Simple melodies ,catchy phrasing and less hard rock driven than Mckendree Spring 3 The only shortcoming is the publishing rights are owned by a german recording company named Line .It makes it more difficult to obtain their material.I wish they were under Decca.Then their music would be more accessable to consumers"
